Just moved in? Lost a house key? Lock sticking, or a key snapped off in the door? Tony's Locksmith Inc comes to your home anywhere in Palm Beach County. Tell us where you are and what's going on with the lock, and we'll give you a price before we come out.

What We Do for Homes

Rekeying after a move or a lost key

Rekeying changes the inside of your lock so the old keys stop working, and you get a new set that does. It's the usual move after you buy a house, lose a key, or just want to know who can get in. If your locks are in good shape, rekeying is usually cheaper than buying new ones.

New locks and replacements

If a lock is worn out, damaged or simply not up to the job, we'll take it off and fit a new one. We can also add a lock where there wasn't one. The right lock depends on your door, so tell us what you've got now, or send a photo.

Lock repair

If a lock is giving you trouble but isn't ready for the bin, we can often fix it. That includes sticky or gritty cylinders, latches that won't catch, deadbolts that don't line up with the strike plate, and loose or worn hardware. We'll check the lock and the door first. If a repair will hold, we'll do it. If the lock is too worn out to be worth saving, we'll tell you and go over replacing it.

Broken key removal

A key snapped off in the lock? Don't push the broken piece in further, and don't try another key. That usually makes it worse. Call us and we'll get it out. If the lock is damaged or was already worn out, we'll tell you before doing anything else.

Locks and the Florida Climate

Salt air

If you live near the coast, salt air eats away at metal over time. Keep an eye out for rust, stiffness or a lock that's getting harder to turn. When it's time to replace an outside lock, ask us about hardware that holds up better near the ocean.

Hurricane season

Before hurricane season, check your outside doors: deadbolts, strike plates, hinges and the door frame. Tighten anything that's loose and fix anything that's damaged. One thing to keep in mind: a good lock helps, but it doesn't make a door hurricane-proof. Impact-rated doors and proper installation are a separate job.

Sliding glass doors

Sliding doors use a different kind of lock from a regular door, and they often stop latching properly when the door gets out of line. [If you repair or replace sliding door locks, say so here. If not, delete this section.]

For Landlords and Property Managers

When a tenant moves out, you need to know the old keys won't work anymore. Rekeying between tenants is usually the quickest and cheapest way to do it. If a lock is damaged, replacing it may make more sense.

Got several units or properties? Send us a list of the addresses, doors and locks before we come, and we'll keep a record of what was done at each one. Yes, we do rental and multi-unit work, from a single turnover to a whole building. Call us and we'll talk through the job and give you a price.

How a Home Visit Works

  1. Tell us what you need.

Rekey, new lock, broken key or something else. Mention what kind of door and lock you have.

  2. Give us the address.

Let us know about gate codes, apartment buzzers or anything else that affects access.

  3. Show us you live there.

We'll ask for your photo ID and something showing you own or rent the place, or have permission to be there. A photo ID plus a lease, utility bill, other mail with your name and address, or written permission from the owner or property manager will do.

  4. We look at the lock.

We check the lock, the cylinder and how the door lines up, so we know the job will actually work.

  5. You approve the price.

We go over the work and the cost before we start: labor, parts, and any extra locks.

  6. You test it.

Try the new keys and check the door locks and unlocks properly before we leave.

What Affects the Price

  • How many locks. Rekeying one lock costs less than doing the whole house.
  • What kind of locks. A basic deadbolt costs less than a high-security or electronic lock.
  • Rekey or replace. Rekeying uses your existing lock. Replacing means buying new hardware.
  • Extra work. A broken key, a damaged cylinder or a door that's out of line takes more time. We'll tell you before doing anything extra.
  • When and where. Lake Worth Beach and nearby areas like Lantana, Palm Springs and Greenacres are short runs for us. A travel charge may apply for longer drives, such as Delray Beach or Boca Raton. We're open 7 AM to 10 PM, every day. We'll include any travel charge in the price we quote before we come out.

Residential Locksmith FAQs

Should I rekey after moving into a new house?

Yes, it's a good idea. You have no way of knowing how many copies of the old keys are out there. Previous owners, tenants, contractors and dog walkers may all have one. Rekeying makes all of those old keys useless.

Is rekeying better than replacing?

If your locks work well, rekeying is usually the cheaper choice. If they're damaged, worn out, or you want an upgrade, replace them. We'll look at the locks and tell you which makes sense.

How do I know if my lock needs fixing?

Watch for a key that sticks, a cylinder that turns unevenly, a latch that won't catch, or visible damage. Sometimes the door just needs adjusting. Sometimes the lock needs replacing. Don't force a key that's sticking. Call us and describe what it's doing.

What should I have ready when you arrive?

Your address, a quick description of the problem, your ID, and something that shows you live there. List the doors you want done and mention any gate or building access.
