Car Key Problems We Handle

Locked out of your car

Keys on the seat, keys in the trunk, or the doors just won't open. Tell us where the car is and what you're driving, and we'll come and get you back in.

Lost or broken car key

If you've lost your only key, or the one you've got is cracked or bent, we can make you a new one. Let us know whether you still have a working spare. It can change what's involved.

Car key replacement

Key fob not working

Often it's just a dead battery. Sometimes it's worn buttons, a broken case or a fob that has lost its programming. Tell us what it's doing (or not doing) and we'll work out which one it is.

Key fob replacement

Key broken in the door or ignition

Keys snap more often than you'd think, usually because they're worn or someone turned too hard. If it happens to you:

  • Stop turning the key.
  • Don't try to push or pry the broken piece out. That usually jams it in deeper.
  • Call us and tell us where it broke: door, trunk or ignition.

We'll get the broken piece out with proper extraction tools. If the lock or ignition was damaged in the process, or was already worn out, we'll tell you and explain your options before doing anything else.

Ignition problems

Key won't turn in the ignition, or it turns but the car won't start? It could be a worn key, a worn ignition cylinder, or a problem with the key's chip. Don't force the key. Tell us what the car is doing and the year, make and model, and we'll work out which it is. If the key is the problem, we can make a new one. If the ignition is worn or damaged, we'll explain your options and the cost before doing any work.

We Come to You

There's no need to tow your car anywhere. We'll come to:

  • Your home. Tell us if the car's in a garage, a driveway or a gated community, and whether we'll need a gate code.
  • Your work. Give us the address, the parking level and any instructions for getting into the lot.
  • A store or public lot. Tell us the name of the place, the street address and roughly where you're parked.

What to tell us when you call

  • Year, make and model
  • Where the car is and how we get to it
  • What's wrong: lost key, broken key, keys locked inside, or a fob that's stopped working
  • Whether you have another working key
  • What kind of key it is (plain metal, chip key, remote, or push-to-start fob), if you know

The more you can tell us, the faster we can give you a firm price.

Locksmith or Dealership?

Both can help, but they're good at different things.

When a mobile locksmith makes sense

For most lockouts, replacement keys and fob problems, a mobile locksmith is usually the easier option. We come to you, so you don't have to tow the car to a dealer and wait for a service appointment.

When the dealer is the better call

Some newer cars need programming that only the manufacturer can do. And if the real problem is in the car's computer rather than the key, the dealer is often the right place. If that's your situation, we'll tell you straight away rather than waste your time.

How to decide

Ask both of us the same questions:

  • Can you work on my exact car and key?
  • Does the car need to be moved?
  • What's the total price, including parts, programming and travel?
  • How soon can you do it, and how long will it take?

Prices vary by car and by job, so get both quotes and compare them.

Cars We Work On

We work on cars, SUVs, pickup trucks and vans from all major brands:

American

Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Chrysler, Dodge, Ford, GMC, Jeep, Lincoln, Ram, Tesla

Japanese and Korean

Acura, Honda, Hyundai, Infiniti, Kia, Lexus, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Subaru, Suzuki, Toyota, Genesis

European

Audi, BMW, Fiat, Jaguar, Land Rover, Mercedes-Benz, Mini, Porsche, Saab, Volkswagen, Volvo

Car keys have changed a lot. Some are plain metal, some have a chip inside, some are remotes, and some are push-to-start fobs that never leave your pocket. What we need to do depends on which one you've got. If you're not sure, send us a photo of the key and tell us the year, make and model.

Car Locksmith FAQs

What do you need to know before you come out?

The year, make and model, where the car is, and what's wrong. Let us know whether you have another working key and what kind of key it is if you know. That's usually enough for a price.

Can you make a car key without the original?

For many cars, yes. It depends on the key type and the car's security system. You'll need to show that the car is yours, usually with your ID and registration or title. Call with your car details and we'll tell you if we can do it and what it'll cost.

My key broke off in the ignition. What should I do?

Stop turning it, and don't try to dig the piece out yourself. Call us and we'll come and remove it. If the ignition is damaged or worn, we'll let you know and go over the options.

Do you cover all of Palm Beach County?

We're based in Lake Worth Beach and cover most of the county. Tell us exactly where you are and we'll confirm we can reach you, roughly when, and whether there's a travel charge.
